These Are 10 Concepts Some Of Us Wish We had Been Taught In School

10 Things I wish I was taught in school

1. Focus and direction and minimizing distractions

It would have been helpful in classes to learn focus and direction techniques as well as how to minimize distractions. More time spent developing interests as well as learning facts and figures.

2.Daily routine formulas
Creating formulas based on a productive day and an unproductive day helps separate between truly important potential future career activities and recreational activities.

3.Bloom Taxonomy
This is a learning process students engage in. It has several stages. It would have been great to understand the learning process Remember, Understand, Apply, Analyze, Evaluate and Create. Who knew it had a name Bloom Taxonomy.

4.Growth mindset
In school I had a fixed mindset. Certain subjects I was not good at. Many times I defeated myself with why bother. Once I got to college, I realized I had to pass certain classes that were hard. I learned through effort we can improve in classes we have no natural ability. This is one of the main principles of Growth Mindset.

5.Reality Check 101

High school is not like the real world. Don’t remember certain basic job getting things. Don’tever being taught how to fill out an application. Or what to say on an Assesment. Wwhat are employers looking for Dependability, Teamwork, Honesty etc..

Think of students understood they are in high school 4 years and the real world potentially 40 or more years.

6.Practical Creativity
How to be resourceful with our art. Stories, poems or other creative forms can be about daily living routines everything going on in their lives.

Look around the neighborhood subject matter is everywhere. Use the environment as a free or inexpensive resource.

7.Importance of Blended learning

Didn’t really understand that many of the places I went to in school were a form of blended learning. Spending time in the library and inside and outside of class as well as in computer labs.
Being able to use the internet as well as textbooks and other types of information

8.Resourcefulness and Resiliency

Already mentioned but in every area of our lives learning how to be resourceful and create options.

Many things happen in our lives. It is important students learn resiliency.

9.Point of confusion problem solvingĀ

This concept is somewhat new Point of Confusion is on a TRF Tutorial Request Form Writing down what the problem or question is. And then going through steps to solve it. It is a great comprehensive way to learn problem solving

10. Collaborative Study groups

This goes along with Point of Confusion but it is the gathering of a group of students who help solve a problem. they ask questions and provide help learning to work together in teamwork. They will all have TRF. CSG’s help students solve problems with their peers.

Family Grows Closer: Sometimes it is about Just Being Helpful

I started being a care partner for my girlfriend a dialysis patient. I spent ten days training wwith her on how to use the machine. We first had to learn how to do it manually and then we were able to hook her up to the Peritoneal Dialysis Machine.

It isn’t really my forte to be sterile, cautious, mindful and extra careful about touching things or laying them down.

I have to wear gloves and a mask which is standard practice. It is not just COVID related. Mandi my girlfriend is hooked up to a machine for seven hours at night. It consists of an eight stage process which consists of filling and draining solution inside her for two hours at a time.

Here is a cassette. No not like you put in a stereo to play music on in the old days.

The cassette filters solution through the red tube into the patient which is colored blue.

It is drained out through the yellow colored tube

Learning this machine has been a great experience. It is well worth it. It is a great feeling to be needed. It has brought us closer together.

During this recent pandemic situation it has really helped me realize the importance of trying to stay healthy.

This is my new family. I realize after all of this how important family is. We need to take care of each other. Here is my book exploring the importance of family. All of my family gathered at 5990. They helped me in so many ways. They helped me financially and helped me get out of trouble. Where did your family gather? How were they helpful to you?

When We Focus On The Wrong Things Think Retro Truck Stop Trough

When We Focus on the Wrong Things Think Retro Tuck Stop Trough

Sometimes the cool thing is not so cool. Someone somewhere decided the cool thing to do would be put a truck stop retro trough in a bar bathroom. Hipsters have a tendency to try to turn something vintage into something really cool. Example converting a garage shop into a coffee place.

Hipster conversion is just an annoying exercise in self coolness at times.
No a trough is ever going to be cool!
But some have decided they want to turn a bathroom into a retro truck stop experience. There is never a time standing by a bunch of dudes with no elbow space I have said this is is a comfortable place to urinate in. or why don’t they bring back the trough?

Why a trough is necessary is beyond me. Is there a practical reason to save money. It sure doesn’t save space.

Some things will never be cool no matter how vintage they think it is.
Once everybody gets into it it is no longer cool again anyway.

Not everything needs to be reintroduced and tried too make cool.

There has not been one time where I longed for the truck retro stop trough.

Shouldn’t we be focusing on true creativity with a purpose?

Couldn’t we concentrate on something of value, instead of a gimmick of self importance inner circle coolness.

First choice for me would be a urinal with my own space. Before a trough, I will take the stall any day.

Do we really need to spend time on this? Do we need a communal urinal?

When we focus on the right things we end up with an unforgettable story of a lifetime.
